The Connection Between Serving and Low Testosterone
While all service members experience health-related physical and psychological issues related to serving their country, men, especially those who engage in conflict, are at risk for low testosterone. At Core Medical Group, we are here for you at every step of your military career. We are experts at treating the root cause of your symptoms.
At Core Medical Group, we know the everlasting injuries that are associated with the Veteran community.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) are associated with the hardships of military training, repeated deployment, and combat. Under stress, your body releases hormones that trigger the fight-or-flight response. This spike in adrenaline and cortisol which is good for action and survival in short, highly charged situations. However, if elevated levels of cortisol become the norm for longer periods of time without sufficient rest and recuperation that allow your body to reset and heal, this state wreaks havoc on your hormones in the long run.
Low Testosterone: Military Service and Veterans
Research has found that the extreme stress from training and deployment causes lasting damage to overall hormone production, which leads to the debilitating long-term symptoms.
Low Testosterone and PTSD
We understand at Core Medical Group how common it is to hear veterans reporting physical and psychological issues about what they lived through during deployment. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs,9 PTSD affects about 7% of veterans and 13% of female veterans.
